Question:

How exact does motorcycle tire pressure have to be?

I am kind of OCD about my tire pressure.

So, if I check it cold in the morning, for instance and it reads 33 pounds like it's supposed to and then I ride to work, when I leave work and check it again and now it's at 35 or something because the air has expanded during the day, do I then have to release 2 pounds worth of air?

  1. Check it cold.

Make sure you check side of tire for correct pressure.

go to the max if you got a rider.

  2. check your tires cold like before you ride if its wrong adjust it. Tire pressure is very important over or under pressure can result in cupping, if a tire cups you can get a wobble a various speeds which is dangerous and bad for the life of the tire. so if its wrong adjust it, its good for you and your tire

  3. No! Believe it, pressures do change with temp, esp here in the South West. Check cold and don't fool with it all day. Add air only if the reading later in the day is below the morning check or below what you have selected to maintain. I keep 38F and 40R in my Wing. If I were to carry a passenger across country, I might add 2 lbs to each. For sure add air if total pressure is 3 pounds low. These aren't cars, a lot depends on correct pressure.

  4. You just need to check the pressure is what the handbook specifies when the tyre is cold, NOT after you have ridden.

  5. no i don't think 2 pounds of air is going to make a difference.

  6. NO. Always check air cold.  Do not bleed air out of a hot tire.
