  1. take classes on as many topics as you can to see where your interests lie, even if you are sure you really like something, it never hurts to find out you like something else. major in education to be a teacher. get your testing done to get certified. find a college advisor to help you get the right major (some sort of elementary ed if you for sure do 4th grade).

  2. it depends on the state where you live. Check with your state's DOE (dept. of ed.)

you'll have to jump through a bunch of hoops for sure, but it's worth it if you really want it

  3. That depends of the state you are in.  Each state has its own criteria.  Actually, each college will as well.  Basically, when you enter college you will major in Elementary Education.  Once you get your degree, you will need to take a teacher's certification test.  After passing the test, you will be issued a certificate to teach elementary grades.  The certificate along with your degree is what you will need when applying for your first teaching position.  That's it in a nutshell.

  4. First I don't know where you are living in the US but I think you should first set up an appointment and go to speak to an academic adviser at a college or university that offers a Bachelor of Education program. I am from Canada and you are from the US but that is what I would do here.  If you can't go to speak to an adviser because the college you want to attend is to far away try to e-mail someone in the Bachelor of Education faculty / department at a university or college you might attend. If you are near a college that offers a BEd program but you don't necessarily want to go to that college the adviser there might still have some time to talk with you and guide you. There should be a page on the college website that you want to attend that lists faculties/programs - pick the Education faculty /dept.- and look for a page that lists some e-mails contacts in that department. E-mail someone who you think will be able to help/guide or redirect you.

  5. i think you major in teaching.

then you take a few classes after college.

or you just start when you graduate college. cause i've got teachers like that.

they teach just after their graduation.

  6. In general, in order to become an elementary school teacher, you have to have a degree in teaching and have state certification. My advice would be to contact either the certification office of the school system you are interested in or the state Board of Education of your state. You will be able to get a list of required courses for teaching. You may also get this information from your college, assuming that it is in the state you wish to teach in. The College of Education of all universities will have course listings conforming with that state's requirements. If you plan on teaching in another state, you will need to follow the college's requirements, but you also may want to get the listing from the other state and make sure you also complete all of those classes. After college, all you need to do is apply to the school system and they will instruct you on what else you need to do.

  7. well, the programmes and requirements differ by state.  most states require you to get a bachelor's degree in a related area of study and go through an accredited teacher training programme.  at the end of your study, you will take standardised tests that assess you subject matter knowledge.  after that, there is a certain requirement in most states to continue study either getting a masters degree or a specified number of credits in related areas to your teaching in a specified number of years.

certification is grouped by age in early elementary, upper elementary, sometimes middles school is seperate, and then secondary.

try looking at your state's department of education website- usually you can find some information there.  another resource would be to contact a nearby university with a teacher training programme and ask them what is required in your state.

    best of luck!
