Question:

How exactly does Central Casting (Burbank, CA) work?

I know that i have to go to Central Casting and get headshots and pay $25. But what happens after that? Is there a "secret" phone number or id-number they give me so i can call to get work? The reason i say "secret" is because i went to Central Casting's website and they already give a phone number saying "Non-Union Work line". So i called that number just for the heck of it and messages from casting directors were being played. Since listening to these messages for the past few days, i've learned that most of them are looking for a VERY specific character, and there isn't much work. So is that phone number the only number to get work, or is there something else they provide us to get more work? Sorry if my questions are too confusing.

  1. So yeah, you sign up and pay for a poloroid snap, that goes in a file.  You then will be called if anyone wants you for their atmosphere, as extras are called.  Or you can call the non union line, which is from non union producers. Most show biz is don't call us, we will call you.  Your file will be disgarded after six months or so and then you have to sign up again. Probably better to go with an extra casting agency.

  2. Doc's right.
