i have a project in world history about this and i was a little confused. How exactly did the discovery of electromagnetic induction help us. how did it lead to making the electric generator (dynamo)? Thanks so much for your help.

  1. Faraday     pre cursor of Tesla

    look up Nichols Tesla

invented ac electric motor and ac transformer based on Faraday's theory

Edison tried to prove ac  was more dangerous than dc

killed horses with ac   to disprove Tesla

    was real genius

    sold patents to Westinghouse

lived in Greenwich village NY in a loft with pigeon's

    died poor,,, Westinghouse made millions

  2. The basic scientific discovery by Faraday showed that a wire moving through a magnetic field causes electricity to flow through the wire.  Other scientists and engineers built upon that discovery to invent dynamos, which generate electricity.

Wikipedia has more info, including this:

"The first dynamo based on Faraday's principles was built in 1832 by Hippolyte Pixii, a French instrument maker. It used a permanent magnet which was rotated by a crank. The spinning magnet was positioned so that its north and south poles passed by a piece of iron wrapped with wire. Pixii found that the spinning magnet produced a pulse of current in the wire each time a pole passed the coil..."

  3. Electricity flowing in a wire creates a magnetic field and the reverse is true.  A magnetic field causes an electric current in a wire.  This is where it gets tricky. A stationary field causes a pulse then the current stops. So the magnetic field must move to keep the current flowing
