i noticed that some countries have more medals than the ones above them, so i wondered. I think that they go by gold then if it is a draw they go to silver and so forth, is that right?

  1. Amercian version:

Sorted by total number of medals. In case USA is not number 1, like last night it was 67:67 for 30 minutes, media will not talk about medal tally as if it never exists. It is for public benefit reason to prevent someone getting too angry, smash their TVs and hurt themselves. So US media is trying their best to serve their beloved fellow American…. and rating is only a minor issue.

The rest of the world version:

Sorted by Gold, and then Silver, and then Bronze. According to some people, this is a bias version because every medalists are winners and they should be treated equally. I never heard this kind of “equal” statement before this Olympics however.

  2. its a fantastic system!

  3. The International Olympic Committee ranks the medal standings both ways on its official information service, though historically they have rejected any notion of a medal tally.  Therefore there is no "official" way of calculating a medal tally.

Simplifying the Olympic Games down to a competition between nations, for the highest medal tally whether gold or overall goes against the spirit of the games.

    The official Olympic creed is:

"The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well."

  4. US websites are ranked by the total medals

everywhere else is ranked by the number of gold medals

  5. I'm pretty sure they just add all three ( gold silver and bronze ) up and then put them in rank of who has the most all together..

  6. ur almost right about that. they count the medals using gold and if there is a tie they use the overall count hope that helps u

  7. Yes, you are right. What the US is doing is to tally all the medals and that shows them on top, while the rest of the world put emphasis on the Gold medals, then silver and bronze.

From here, you can see that USA is in a world of their own and was never a part of this wonderful planet and that's why, everyone hates them. They also like to call their games World Series when only they are playing among themselves. Rednecks with rednecks. This will tell you how narcissistic and self absorbed they are as a nation..

    ha ha

  8. Yes, the rankings on the Olympic medal tally are calculated by the number of gold medals (then silver, then bronze), although the Americans go by the total number of medals. So they are under the delusion that they are beating China when they actually aren't (because China has way more gold medals)
