Question:

How expensive are taxis in Germany?

Do they charge by the Kilometer or by time? Such as in NYC we use it by time. I was wondering if it is the same there?

Is the public transportation as good as I am told it is?

  1. As a matter of fact, taxis do charge by kilometres AND by time. Not sure whether there are regional differences about it, but in bigger western cities they definitely do charge time and km. When compared to NYC taxis, I think ours are relatively pricey, especially with the current gas prices.

Regarding public transportation, however, I can but agree with what has been posted above. Transportation in medium+ sized cities is excellent.

  2. My dear Apt....

YES, they charge just like in the "big Apple" by time -(inside the city)- when you happen gto go from "one city" to another, you can "handle-out" a deal, i.e. a set-price out front! Also...when you enter the cab, there is already an amount of 2-3 Euro's on "the clock" (depends in which city you are, the price may vary)BUT: at least you get to sit in a Mercedes Benz...if that's any "consolation"...smile!!

On your second question...Y E S  our public transportation really is quite  G O O D - within the city the busses come within a 10-15 Min.-cycle...and they even take you to the smallest little "cow-town" on time!! So you really do not "need" a taxi within the city, cause the busses come frequently!!

Wish you a great stay here in Germany!Lots of love...Annette***
