How expensive in US$/gallon will gas have to be before people make major lifestyle changes?

  1. For me, it will be $10/gal. But I own my cars, and both get fairly good gas mileage. At $10/gal., I will start thinking about buying a newer and more efficient car.

    For most, however, I think $5/gal. will be the major breaking point. At $3/gal. a lot of folks are already making changes.


  2. for the rich maybe $10/gal for lower to middle I think it will be $5 - 6/Gal

  3. Naw I think more like around $5/gal US.  Then all the lower income people will be at the local Honda and Toyota dealers ordering Civics and Corollas.  There'll be a glut of suvs and pickups for sale used.

    At $5 a gal it'll cost a whopping $100 to fill those larger tanks minimum and $50 won't be half a tank.  That'll hit the old wallets just a little too much.  Also the prices for other goods will be on the rise due to fuel pricing so everything will cost more and a more fuel efficient car will make sense.

  4. at $340 I have already cut back on my driving.
