in general. Not any specific area, just an average.

Like maybe food and such.

  1. I've never tried to buy a whole country, so couldn't tell you

  2. It's expensive enough if you come as a tourist. Lunch can be 10-15 euro (unless you settle for a take away sandwich or fast food - around 5 euro), dinner 20-30 per person, and keep in mind wine is very expensive, at least 25 euro for a bottle.

A pint in a pub can be anything between 3.70 to 5, depending on the area and the type of beer. Cocktails 7-9 euro.

Public transport is quite expensive too, especially if you consider how bad it is! Just as an example, the local bus from Cork to Midleton, Co.Cork (less than 15 miles) is 5.50 euro. Trains are dirt expensive and there are very few lines. Cork to Dublin by train is some 60 euro.

Petrol is as of today between 1.15 and 1.20 euro per litre.

Cigarettes 7.15 euro a pack of 20, packs of 10 are now banned.

Accommodation can be anything really, depends so much on the season and the type. Guesthouses and 2-3 star hotels are your best bet for good value and decent accommodation.

If you come to live, rent for a room can be anything between 250 and 500 euro, for a 2 bedroom apartment 600-1200. If you shop at Tesco or Lidl you won't spend much, I'd say 30-50 euro per week per person depending on how expensive is your taste! Clothes are quite reasonable too, unless you look for designer clothes that are much more expensive than in any other European country.

But if you come to live, consider that wages are more than adequate to the cost of living.

  3. Its expensive to eat in restaurants...you wont get a steak dinner for less that €20...f**s are expensive €7.15....and drink in the pubs is expensive....also the weather is dirt at the moment so dont bother coming!

(Ill never get a job with the tourism board will I?)

  4. My weekly grocery bill for two adults is usually around €80. Running the car is about €50 a week in petrol, give or take. I just had a 10,000 kilometre service, with two tyres (2) on the car, that came to €300.

I'm expecting to pay €600 for a small tank of home heating kerosene, my wireless broadband bill is €50 a month, my telephone landline is about €33 a month (usually a bit less) and my mobile phone bill is €20 per month. My electricity bill is about €130 for 2 months.

A pint of beer is around €4, spirits such as vodka can be about €5 a time, but I think the people who are really creaming it are plumbers and electricians, I had a guy come out to fix something in my washing machine, the b*****d charged me €60 for the whole thing, the job took 10 minutes at most.

I live in a rural area, so don't have any choice as regards transport, you need a car to get around.  Ditto with the wireless broadband. But my house is a lot cheaper compared to houses in the cities, in particular Dublin, as I have a nice piece of ground around it. The price was €127,000 Euro, being paid off in a mortgage.

  5. 2 litre milk €2.00, loaf of bread €0.70, chinese takeaway with extra flied lice €6.00, petrol €1.15/litre, can of budweiser €1.78, 20 cigarettes €7.15....it all depends where you shop, it varies from cheap to expensive. For food Lidl/Aldi is very cheap. Average is Tesco/Dunnes/Supervalu
