There will be 2 adults and one child traveling.

  1. Let me explain to you it's not that  Rome is expensive, it's when they went from the Lira to the Euro almost everything went to double in price and when it was the lira the exchange rate was much better and now you don't get not even half of what your money is worth.

  2. for hotel, you may check few around train stazione, they are small, designed for tourists, and economic. they are close to each other so you dont have to walk long to check 4-5 hotels.

for food, it all depends, you may order a pizza and spaggehtti

with agua to satisfy your stomach wheile enjoying the small but comfortable resteraunts there, it's about 6-15  euro for each.  for standard italian meal, you have to consider about euro 15 -30 for each to cover few courses; for tourist attractions, you may want take metro subways or simply walk there from train station, where you may enjoy all the way old nice buidlings, there's no admissions to these attractions, but you will pay some few euros if visiting some art gallaries or museums; no fees to enter Vanticano and S.Peter's church. on the whole, the trip won't be  necesarilly expensive if you would check aorund.
