I live in Guatemala near the mexican border and Chiapas. I´d like to bus back to Arizona rather than fly. I would also like to stop at a few places like Oaxaca, Guadelajara etc. Has anyone had experience taking buses through mexico? What type of cost should I expect for the trip back to AZ?

  1. Looked up what I could...it is about 738 pesos from Tuxtla-Gutierrez, Chiapas to Mexico City..about 12 hrs.  I have travelled by bus in Mexico...but never the long route you are thinking of.  That should be about half way...so I think you could do the whole trip for under 1500 pesos...pretty good, huh?  You can find some of the routes and info on site below, but sometimes you just need to go to the bus station and ask...in Mexico city there are buses going everywhere frequetly.

  2. I don't know any detailed info on the company, but there is at least one bus company that runs express busses that are fairly cheap.  My mother in law has taken it several times.  You could take a regular bus and it would be pretty cheap up until the US border.

  3. I rode 1st class buses from Guatemala City to Brownsville, TX, with stops in Tapachula and Veracruz. It costs $109 USD, and took 41 hours, including a 4 hour wait in Veracruz.

You can book tickets online at http://www.ticketbus.com.mx . You can also see the schedules and prices of most of the Mexican bus companies at the same site.
