I am going to Southern Spain around New Years of this year. I was there about 12 years ago and found that it cost the same as the US. Now that the Euro is higher how expensive is it to go out at night and have dinner etc?

  1. Travelling in spain is relatively inexpensive.  Southern Spain is beautiful in December.  Temperature is around 18degrees C.  Warm enough to be without a jacket in the daytime.  As far as eating goes, depends on what sort of food you like.  In Southern spain you are really spoiled for choice....you can have anything from a simple burger to a banquet...Chinese food is ridiculously cheap but Indian food is very expensive.  Buffets are very reasonable and very popular.  Fine dining is expensive but casual dining isn't.  You can eat very well quite inexpensively and treat yourself occasionally.  It still costs much less than the UK to eat out and drinks are much cheaper and much larger.

HOpe you have a great time.

  2. Depends what you deem as "expensive". Dining out in Europe (if you are thinking in US equivalents) is usually more expensive than the US - for several reasons, one being of course the exchange rate. Europeans prefer to go out and have a drink or two - and maybe in Spain you could enjoy a few tapas. I was in Seville in November last year and that's what we did. Tapas are usually inexpensive and quite tasty (although we did get tired of Jamon after a while). They are cheaper than in the US, where the Spanish-style restaurants will overcharge for the rather exotic food type.

  3. My father just came back from Spain yesterday. He said the cost for eating per person was about $23.00 us. for lunch or dinner + tip.

Also watch out for pick pockets in the train ways. His wallet got picked out of his pocket by someone in the train station. Make copies of your pass ports and stash money in all of your bags. Get a carry holder which you carry around your neck on a chain.

If you find the people are walking slow in front of you, then push and go around them, because it's a stalling technique for the pick pockets. Walk fast if at all possible and be aware of whose around you. If you feel any pressure, then you just lost you wallet or something else.
