    Breakfast: $7-$9 inc beverage

    Lunch: $6-$9 exc beverage

    Dinner: $9-$19 exc beverage

In the lounge car, you can buy snacks and microwave meals. Expect to pay a little more than in your local supermarket.

The diner is a must-see, at least once. For lunch I usually go for the snack car, unless I'm a sleeper passenger (meals are included in the cost).

Edit: To rdenig - those prices are from their menus on the website. Bear in mind that the dollar has plummeted over the last couple of years so in reality to the average American, those prices are actually on the expensive side. But I agree, as a fellow Brit, food prices on trains in the UK are extortionate. I remember having a fantastic steak on GNER (before the franchise ended) with a split bottle of wine plus dessert and it cost my company nearly 40 quid IIRC.

  2. the food stinks one step above McD.

    bring your onwn snacks

been on Amtrak several times. overprices c**p.

    like an airplane.

  3. dont wast your money amtrak food sucks

  4. its pretty good consider the space the chef has to work in

(and if you book a sleeper meals are included in that price

if you only book coach then you have to pay

  5. As an English Railfan, I'm intrigued by the prices quoted by Geoff. It is so much more expensive over here. Breakfast in the dining car (if you can still get it) will cost £15+ or about $30 and dinner the equivalent of $40 - $50. Again excluding beverages, other than tea and coffee. We pay the equivalent of $5 for a sandwich
