How expensvie would ebony/ rosewood/ maple be for an elctric guitar/bass fret board?

  1. Rosewood is the standard for ost guitars on the market, irrelevant of the quality. It offers a warmer tone and more sustain than the other fingerboards.

    Maple is good for its clarity and more treble sounding but less sustain than a rosewood.

    Ebody is by far, the strongest and most resistant of fretboard. That is why the gibson Les paul Custom has an ebony fingerboard and very thin frets. Because the wood is extremely hard, we can put thinner frets since the fingerboard won't have a tendency to twise or warp.

    As for the pricing, an ebony fingerboard will up the price by as muh as $200 since they are placed on top end guitars and used for fretless basses often.
