The term is short for biological diversity.

I don't think the term is on everyone's radar, but it seems to come up when discussing almost any serious environmental issue.

  1. Biodiversity is the relationship of the number of individual organisms to the number of kinds of organisms. It's not a simple ratio and computing it can be a chore without a computer program to do so.

    The more stress an ecosystem is under, the lower the biodiversity. This makes it a good measure of pollution.
