How far ahead of time do I have to book a taxi?

In Australia, if I go out to a club in the evening, when should I call the taxi service? When I'm ready to leave, or should I book it prior to the evening?

most clubs will have unbooked taxis already waiting outside cause they know they will get customers there. in my experience taxis are fairly quick, usually takes about 10 minutes for them to come, which isnt long if you have someone to talk to while waiting for it.

if you book it before you leave it restricts the time you spend out because you are under the obligation to catch the taxi, whether your ready to leave or not.
