Ok I had a period July 1st, then aug 2nd I found out I was pregnant. My Dr said my conception date was around july 18. I went to get an ultrasound done today and was told all they could see was a sac and a yolk. Is this normal, i thought by week 6 that you could see and hear the babys heart beat. Am I 6 weeks or less then that, because its been 6 weeks since my last period. Im sorry if I confused you, Im confused and worried myself

  1. you can see the heartbeat as early as 5 weeks depending on how strong it was, mine was detected at 6.5 weeks. and you can't hear the heartbeat until your 12 weeks unless your uterus and the baby are in the perfect position to hear it then you can hear it at 8 weeks. but that is a very low chance that the baby will be in the right position.

  2. 7 weeks on the dot, today.

  3. The embryonic heart starts beating 22 days after conception, or about five weeks after the last menstrual period, which by convention we call the fifth week of pregnancy. The heart at this stage is too small to hear, even with amplification, but it can sometimes be seen as a flickering in the chest if an ultrasound is done as early as four weeks after conception.

After the 9th or 10th week after your last menstrual period, you might be able to hear your baby's heartbeat at your prenatal appointment. The way the sound comes back is affected by motion, so a beating heart creates a change in the sound that can be picked up by the receiver in the Doppler.  Whether you actually hear the heartbeat at 9 or 10 weeks depends partly on luck-the instrument must be placed at just the right angle. It also depends on the position of your uterus, and if you're slim or heavy. By the 12th week, the heartbeat can usually be heard consistently, using the Doppler instrument for amplification.

You should judge your due date off of the first day of your last period, which using July 1st would make your due date April 7, 2009.  This puts you at approximately 7 weeks.  Dont worry that you cannot hear the heartbeat yet...it is too soon.

  4. I think it varies, my friend went for a scan when she was 5w 6d and it only showed her yolk sack. You have to remember that your baby at the moment is only between .8 and .16 inches big and the heart is roughly the size of a poppy seed! I'd say it sounds like youre roughly 5-6 weeks! hang in there, you'll hear/see something at your next appointment!

    Congratulations and good luck!

  5. You are 7 weeks pregnant. They count it not by conception date, but by the first day of your last period. So since that was 7/1, you are 7 weeks pregnant. The heart beat on average starts beating right around 5 weeks, but you can't actually hear it until 12 weeks. The heartbeat should have started by now, but I would wait another week and get another ultrasound, don't just assume it's not a viable pregnancy at this point. Definetly recheck. You should also have your HCG level tested to make sure they are rising.

  6. No you are like 4 7 weeks...

& you can't hear the heartbeat till around 12 weeks

    congrats..
