  1. At the Olympics, since the Barcelona games everyone shoots from 70m at a 122cm target.

    Before that, the Olympics is shot using the double FITA format, where they shoot 288 arrows, split into 8 rounds with 4 distances.  The men shoots at 90m, 70m, 50m and 30m, and women shoots from 70, 60, 50 and 30m.  Which to me is still a better measure of a good archer.  There's no game of chance there.  With the new, more televisable format, you leave too much to luck.  A gust of wind and you can loose the match and be out of the running.  They go from 288 arrows to determine the winner to 12 arrows.
