I found M4 the other night in my handy 8x40 monocular. It looked like a small blurry patch near Antares. On the next clear night, I'm going to hunt for M22, near the top of the teapot lid in Sagittarius. How far away are these globular clusters?

  1. According to Wikipedia, M4 is 7200 light years away and M22 is 10,600 light years away.

Both are great objects, but M22 tends to be more impressive.

  2. you are so gonna love this....i did anyway...i ran across this website a few weeks ago , they offer a free dl called "Where is M13?", and it is a graphic 3D view of all of the Messiers, and thousands of clusters and ngc' s and stuff...dl it then go look up your m4 and m22
