  1. The Chaparral and Taiga are both biomes and therefore they occur all over the world.  The Taiga is a cold and heavily forested biome located in the Northern Hemisphere (just South of the Tundra, where the only vegetation are mosses, small grasses, and lichen).  The Chaparral is warm, wet during the winter and dry during the summer, and composed of shrubs mostly.

In terms of how far away they are from one another, that's not really a question that can be answered.  Because they occur throughout the world, you can't just pinpoint their location and then measure the distance between them.

It's a bit like asking "How far away is the desert and the rainforest?"  Which desert?  The Sahara?  The Atacama?  Which rainforest? The Amazon?  The rainforests of Central Africa?  The distance will depend on which of the examples of the biome you choose.

Are there any more specifics that you can give?
