My mare is pregnant, and her due date is close, and she has bagged up a little bit. The liquid coming out is sticky and clear with a cloudy-ish yellow tint. How far away is she? Also her butt muscles have relaxed, and she is rosy pink in her behind. The baby has been moving a lot, and she is very ansty. I think Im going to get a tester, that will tell me how far away, but until then, Im turning to you guys. Im just looking for ball park estimates. Thanks so much! =D

  1. within the week from when she started dripping milk and the reason it yelowish is because its culestrum its what they produce first to help there baby build up there imune system i would get ready for a baby!!!!!

congrats we just had 2 a couple months ago

  2. Looks like it will be very soon...tonight or tomorrow.

  3. I'd say a week or two for a ballpark estimate.  Mainly because the bag isn't full and the 'milk' still has a 'clear' appearance.  When it gets opaque and you can't 'see' through it... then you're really close.

Look for the belly dropping.  It's like her sides will disappear and look like all the weight went into her belly.  I mean right underneath the mare.  From a side view, her belly will look in 'V' shape.  That's the foal dropped into birthing position.  I've been told...and don't know if it's a 100% true...but the foal will actually be calm and still when impending birth is imminent.  Supposedly so it stays in the correct birthing position.

The v***a will also get longer and droopier, and may 'gap' a wee bit withing a couple days of birth.

  4. I would say within a week or so. I'm not completely certain, but if her butt muscles have relaxed and she is bagging up well, a week ought to be reasonable.

  5. Her bag will get big and full (hard) shortly before she has the baby.  The baby should be calm not active.  Her belly will drop - her ribs back and hips may be much more noticable.  You will not be able to stand the anticipation!!  The full moon was the 18th so look to see when the next new moon is.  (My dad's "old wives tale" but works all the time!!)  Best of luck
