How far can an average person swim?

I have a job application to fill out and one of the questions is "How far can you swim?". I haven't gone swimming for years (and I'm not able to go just to answer that question). So I was wondering how far an average person is usually able to swim? I'm female, 5'7 tall, 160 lbs, average/fairly good shape and slightly muscular.

I just started swimming last week and i swam about 1200 meters...but i dont think im average in the pool at least
