Question:

How far can you drive on a deflated tire?

I have an appointment to get my tire fixed (nail in it) but overnight the tire has seriously deflated. Now I am not sure if I can make it to the garage (about 2 miles away). I really can't afford to pay a tow truck. There is really not enough time to fiddle around with the spare either (I have to be at work in 30 minutes). Should I risk the drive?

  1. don't unless u plan on buying a new one at the garage

  2. If you can't afford a tow truck you can't afford a new tire . . I wouldn't chance ruining a tire .  I'd call my boss explain I have a flat and put on the spare . .

  3. Do the drive pay the bill.

Not only will you destroy the tyre but probably the wheel as well. Also you need to take on board the fact that your car does not 'comply' so if you had an accident, which is a high possibility with a low or flat tyre, your insurer might decline to cover any possible consequences.

What you need to be doing when you have time, is practice changing a wheel. If you do not know how to do this, ask some one to help you, i.e. tell you how to do it, NOT do it for you.

This way you are competant and able to resolve such problems when they arise. having said that if your tyre pressures were correct you are less likely to get a puncture in the first place.

I have 40 plus years under my belt and only had 2 punctures, one was a manufacturers faulty tyre and one was hitting a kerb trying to miss the horse!!!

Puncture horse, horse puncture, I'll have the puncture please.

  4. i would say that tire will take you all the way....

to the scene of the crash!!

  5. No, dont drive if the tyre is totally flat because you will damage the inside of the tyre, just put the spare on and be a few minutes late for work, it will be cheaper in the long run. driving any distance at all on a flat tyre will destroy it
