How far can you trace your ancestry back?

I have got back to about 1700 ad or so ; but have doubts about some of these " ancestry" websites. They only seem to be designed to make money for themselves, & tend to be full of American ( Morman) information that English people don't need.

i was able to go back pretty far due to noble blood in my ancestry

On my Dad's side, just to the early 1400s in Germany.  On my Mom's side, back to Charlemagne, some lesser Caesar's, to Greece, Turkey, Israel, Egypt B.C.

Makes a nice story, anyway.

So far I'm back to 1750. Before 1837 one has to do some leg work as website information becomes unreliable. There is no substitute for original documents.

Not very far, but in one line ive got to my great great great grandparents.

I have gone back to 1742 on one side, on the other side only 1812

its very addictive

I can trace back to my grandparents.  If my Italian grandfather was telling the truth, I can trace my ancestry back to the Lombards about 500AD - but he lied about everything else.

A cousin has researched back to the 1500s on one side. On others, I  have gone back as far as Church records to the 1600s.
