  1. bizarre response >>>>depends on what kind of ammunition you are using and the type of bullet you are using

if you are aiming it, you can make it go farther or shorter distances by adjusting your iron sights

and then the wind factor comes into play

but at an arc, you can shoot over a mile

if you are on a hill and the gun is pointed straight ahead, the bullet will get minimal lift and then start falling to the ground but it will get more distance than if you are on flat ground

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.

what a bunch of c**p for an answer. Bullet variety isn't all too much for a .22 lr, so no, kind of bullet is not a factor. adjusting iron sights would be totally irelevent since that just would increase the arc and the question clearly says "not up in the air". Wind comes into play ? My God, no. Maybe a Cat 5 hurricane.

Why don't you just say something like it depends on the local ocean temperature and the alignment of the stars ?

  2. about 250 yards

I'm 6' tall have shot at a shoulder height target at that distance on flat land and watched my rounds kick up dust before reaching the target

  3. This depends if you are shooting prone, kneeling, or standing. Givin the average velocity of 1250 fps for a 40 gr bullet.........*gets calculator*.......273m.

  4. Looking at "Ammo and Ballistics" vol. #3 we can see that standard velocity 40gr .22lr bullets drop roughly 3 feet in 200 yards and have lost apprx 1/3 of their velocity. I think we can safely say that within the next 100-200 yards it will be hitting the ground.

  5. 1 mile

  6. I haven't taken physics yet. I'll get back to you in six months.

  7. A few hundred yards in most cirumstances.

What's really neat is that if you fired a gun straight ahead over flat ground, and dropped a bullet out of your hand, they would both hit the ground at about the same time (despite the tiny rise the flying bullet might get).

  8. Here's the deal- the effect of gravity will be the same, belive it or not, on a bullet dropped at a certain height, and shot on a level from that height- If you put a gun in a vise 4 foot high, put a level on it, and shot the gun and dropped the bullet from 4 foot high at the exact same time, both bullets would hit the ground at the exact same time, if the ground were perfectly level also. To figure the answer to your question, drop the bullet from the height you would shoot it from and time it with a stop watch. get the speed of the bullet from a ballistics chart and multiply the speed by the time it took the bullet to hit the ground when dropped- you will have the distance the bullet would have traveled in a straight line.- As far s the e- mail is concerned , I'm with DL on that one.

  9. so the person shooting it is 6feet tall. is the gun held at 6 feet? or fired from the shoulder which is lower? what is the speed of the bullet? its a simple gravity/distance/speed equation.

I am not sending anything to anyones email.
