If you have a vehicle that holds 31 gallons of gas and gets 14 miles per gallon in city. How many 4 mile in city trips could one make using all 31 gallons of gas?

  1. The point of this excercise is to get you to learn how to figure it out yourself.

    You have 31 gallons, and 14 miles/gallon.  You are trying to figure out how many miles you can go.  

    Multiply gallons by miles/gallon, and you cancel out the gallons and are left with just the miles.  

    Then you have miles/trip, and you are trying to figure out how many trips you can do.  So you DIVIDE miles by miles/trip, which cancels out the miles.  (because it's like multiplying, except with the miles/trip flipped upside down)

    The number you're left with is the number of trips you could take.
