I don't have enough time to fly to Alice Springs. I just want to drive out of the city on a weekend trip and see the bush & wildlife. Any suggestions where to go?

  1. That depends on the "Outback", that you want to see. If you drive toward Canberra you could stop off at places like Wombean Caves, Bungonia, Abacrombie Caves and river, Places near Goulburn, like Taralga, Crookwell, Dubbo. There are all different places to see. I would suggest going to the Goulburn Information Centre Website and they would be able to direct you to tourists sites.

    Good Luck and Happy Travelling.

    Note.........

All of these places are 1-4 hours drive South of Sydney

  2. Blue Mountains - not "outback" but within weekend driving trip. Plenty of bush and wildlife, plus good places to eat and drink:

Besides that, in the "outback" you mainly see dead kangaroos. At least in the BM, most of them will still be hopping around the bush.

    .

  3. The "real" outback-Narromine.

Catch the train to Dubbo, stay the night and drive (in hire car) the 30 min drive to Narromine and then the 1.5 to Nyngan. Stay overnight in Nyngan. Then catch the coach to Dubbo, then the train to Sydney.

  4. Well it depends what you mean by outback. I reckon if you left on a Friday night and came back on Sunday night you'd have the time to fly to Alice Springs and back.

  5. Go to the Southern Highlands. It's bushy but not exactly desert outback.

  6. The Outback is located on Old Windsor Road, near the  Parkley Market. They sell steaks, big glass drinks and others. It is one hour drive out of Sydney CBD. I think this is the nearest Outback you can find.

  7. outback Burke about 1000klm

bush & wildlife Blue Mts about 150 klm

  8. 20 million hours

  9. mmm i'm not sure about sydney but in melbourne it'll take about an hour and a half - 2 hrs

it should be the same for sydney

  10. Hi why drive when ya can catch a train or bus or plane letting someone else do the driving, to reach the  accessible  outback.See links
