  1. OK Ken.  Stop frightening the visitors!! :-))

    Melbourne airport is 19kms from the city.  It takes about 30 mins by bus or taxi from the airport to the city.

It depends on how the airspace is structured.  Some cities will have restricted airspace above and/or around them and some won't.  I think you'll find that in regular visual flight airspace (say a Cessna or something) that the leeway is 1000ft above the ground level and 500 ft from the closest buildings or something similar.

  3. as airports are very near city's & planes must land there.

    they fly over all the time so there is no distance they must stay from a city

  4. Don't remember about landing in Melbourne but flying into Sydney you can read the headlines on newspapers blowing about in the street.  Maybe not that close, but you're low and right above houses.  It's no wonder people go nuts and start firing rifles at planes.
