Question:

How far do i cut a asiatic lilly down?

after my asiatic lilly are done blooming should i just cut it off from where the flower started? or can i cut the whole stem right down to the ground...the stems dont really look nice like that cause in my backyard the rabbits have chewed up most of the leaves....and i have lots of holes in the leaves i think because of ants and slugs......

please help.....

Try to leave as much stem as possible, I understand it's "ugly" but as it was previously stated the more stem you have the better your' plant will be next year.  Maybe you should plant something a little shorter in front of the lillies next year, something like profusion zinnias.  I love those and have them planted in front of my lillies for the purpose you talking about.  A nice ornamental grass would look good also - as long as it won't cover up the lilly blooms.    Good Luck


  2. The more stem that remains, the better the plant will be next  year.  You see, the bulb is fed and energized by the foliage, after the flower has gone by and has been trimmed off.

    Sooo, the higher up the stem, the better.
