How do you get there?

My workplace is 10 miles away, I drive because the roads are too narrow and dangerous to cycle

Hey I get it man - because even in PDX there are still some stretches of my route that freak me and we have probably the nations best infrastructure to support the bike commuter.

That said - have you thought about joining a bike forum in your area?  You could get tips about routes you may not have heard of and ways to make your ride safer.

Also consider combining methods... transit, bike maybe so you can avoid the rough patches.

There's a way if the will is there... Lance A. trained in Texas (and still rides) so there has to be hope where you are... unless you're in Texas...

34 mile round trip.  I drive  a beat up Crown Vic because most people here cant drive very well...but I would ride  a fuel efficient motorcylce if I lived somewhere were the weather was warm and not so populated

Every day is different with my job - the furthest away shool I visit is 20 miles away and the closest is just the other side of town - regardless of distance, I always take the car as I have too much to carry.

i work at home so i don't commute but when i did work i used to travel 30,000 miles per year to and from work, with the odd trip to wales, ppl thought i was bonkers !  x

I have just left my job at an airport in Spain ,it was only an hour away but i used to give a lift to 3 others so it made my journey 1 hour 45 mins i couldnt  complain as it was a company car.
