  1. It depends on how fast the speed limit is. If it's 20, you don't want to go as much over the limit as if its 70. I would say max is around 12 mph and min is around 5 mph over the limit depending on the speed limit...

  2. I got 3 points for doing 63 in a 60 limit...no conditions or mitigating circumstances that meant it was out of the normal conditions........an "A" road, dead straight, steady stream of traffic on a dry clear day.

A5, between Oswestry and Wrexham. North Wales police, obviously.

So, i'd say there are no rules really, "once your over, your open"

The "10 over" and "10% is the rule " answers are wrong, i've a ticket to prove it.

  3. That depends on what the  officer that watches you go over the speed limit has in mind.

  4. I have a friend who works for the CHP, he says that he wont usually pull someone over unless they're going at least 10 miles over the limit.  I've followed this rule driving in southern CA for years and I haven't gotten a ticket.  I usually drive pretty fast too.  I always drive the speed limit on city streets.  But they can and might give you a ticket if they're having a bad day.

  5. depends in what area u are.. if you don't know the area very well ... si stay the speed limit... but for around where you live you should know where the poilice sit on a regular basis... i usulaly do 10 over the speed limit!!!!!

maybe 15 or 20 if i feel daring!!!!!

  6. ^^ So a kid is gonna run in the middle of a 4-5 lane highway? That's just called natural selection. Anyways I go 10 over on main streets and 15 over on the highway. I go the limit in school zones though.

  7. I stay at 9 mph over the limit.

A long time ago when i was a cop, we wouldn't ticket any one for anything less than 10 mph over.  The judges at the time would throw it out, giving 5 mph error for the car's speedo, and 5 mph error for the speed gun.

Could be different now, but i still stay at 9 over, and it works.

  8. I've always heard that 5 miles over is considered safe.

  9. It's all you taking risk to go over speed limit. It's depend how traffic flow and especially cop can pull you over just because you went over speed limit.

  10. how about not going over the speed limit in the first place

as remember the faster you go the longer it will

take you to stop in an emergency  like if a kid runs into the middle of the street..plus you use more gas going over the speed limit  and dont you want to save gas?

  11. i think 5 would be a safe bet

but i wouldnt blame a cop from pulling over anyone who is speeding no matter how fast there going

  12. I think it might depend on what officer you get and where you're driving.

I'm from a small town && if you go even one mph over, they'll pull you over : /

also, you could go to the dmv an get a booklet.

when i got my license they gave me a booklet to study from.

it had the points system in it.

i don't know if that applies to  you or not.

  13. The automatic speed cameras like GATSOS, and the hand held speed guns are accurate to 10%, so in a 30 - 33, in a 70-77 etc.

I often do 53 along a stretch of the A14 that is 50, makes me laugh to undertake the cars that were overtaking me until we reached the speed camera! I swear they must slow to 45 to go through them. Pathetic if you ask me!
