  1. Two times a day. Two miles each time. "Walker" also has a large fenced country yard. As soon as the crops come off he will be taken across the road where he can run in the fields 'off leash'. He loves that. We usually let him go until he tires himself out. Might as well; he won't come back until he's ready anyway. As long as he can keep us in sight he's okay.

  2. I walk my sheltie about 2 miles before he gets tired.

  3. Yes...I'd say that's a bit too much, 4 miles anyway.

1-2 miles is probably very sufficient.

We have a pitbull and we walk him about a mile.

  4. hey it good u make ur Dog walk

i make atke my dobe and 2 boxers for at least 2 hours walk and they love it

we have a shih tuz but she is just 4 month old

  5. I've had two pom's before they were tiny as heck! But they loved to walk long distances. When i went walking, I'd take them with me.

We'd walk 3miles everyday. Since she's used to one mile. Go up to two miles and see how she does for about 2weeks. Then keep going up till you reach 4miles. & If you think that's to much for her. then go back down to three miles for a while till she get's a little stronger to walk 4miles. Small dogs arn't really that strong like big dogs are.

  6. that is to far,cut back to 2 miles.

I normally walk my dog about 1 mile, get her to buy me a beer & a packet of chicken chips then I go home for a sleep.

  7. around the block

  8. I have a yorkshire terrier, and I walk him about an eighth of a mile each day. Only an opinion, but I think four miles is a little too much.

  9. if your dog isnt showing signs of exhaustion then its fine, if hes panting alot stuff like that then its to much. just keep an eye on him and always bring a bottle of water for him just in case.

i have Pit Bulls and i walk them at least 3 miles a day. they also have a treadmill, that they run on for about 30 minutes a day.

  10. Wow that's a nice walk for a pom! Make sure it's not too hot outside when u go and take a water bottle for your dog and he will be fine :) Y pack and I go for a 2 mile hike every day and finish off at the off leash park :) Way To Go! Finally A Responsible Dog Owner!

  11. Good Job on walking your dog!! Just try to mimic the type of excersise that the breed was bred for. In your case 4 miles may be at the high end for the that mix.

  12. I personally would have worked up to 4 miles gradually.  Going from 1 directly to 4 could have been a bit of a jump.  Even if he is not excessively tired, his joints and muscles (including the heart) might have needed to condition themselves for that long of a walk.

But I see nothing wrong with working up to that distance.  Just keep watching him.  At 8 years old, he is not a young pup anymore.  Keep him hydrated and you might think about supplementing with glucosamine and chondroitin for his joints if needed.

Kudos to you for exercising with your dog!  Great bonding time and a good workout for you both!
