I am framing a room where the furnace is located and I was wondering how close I can frame my wall to the furnace? Do I need to keep the wall a certain distance from the furnace or can I keep it tight? It's a gas furnace and I live in ontario, Canada if that helps at all. Thanks in advance.

  1. Furnaces can be for zero clearance, or some stated clearance.  The stated clearance varies from one furnace to another.  Perhaps the web site for the manufacturer can help you with yours.

  2. most heaters have o inches sides, and back clearance - the true concern is front clearance..... normally 3 inches - on your heater itself, the rating plate will provide the manufacturers recommended clearances , good luck.......

  3. Rear of furnace to wall 0". If you bulid tight to the front, you will make servcing the blower and coil impossible and create a fire hazard. Also, if you are closing in the furnace, hopfully you are taking precautions to provide adequate combustion air.

If you have a 2 pipe furnace, this would not be a concern.
