When you look in the racingpost (or any racing paper) and see a "D" next to a horses name. What distance does that mean they have won at?

All answers much appreciated

Thanks

  1. It may interest you and other equine posters here than in the sport of harness racing that when the winner or any of the other horses competing are separated by more than 5 seconds or 25 lenght, that being that 1 lenght equals 1/5th of a second, hence 5 lenghts in a second, that "dis" appears after or next to the finishers position.

Sometimes it is the result of broken equipment shown as" be", or an accident,"acc" but the horse still finishes the race or is interfered with "int". some times an unfortunate occurrence of all of the events could and has happened, but that is as rare as a triple dead heat for win.

i do clearly recall Secretariat, in his record breaking preformance, in winning the Belmont, won by more than 31 lenghts, over the 2nd place horse, and incressed his lead with each furlong.( i do not know of a web site, unless you tube can access the CBS video historical films, but if you have never seen it you will be left agog.)

  2. C means it has won on this course

D means it has won at this distance

CD means it has won at this distance on this course

C,D means it has won on the course and it has won at the distance but not at one and the same time

  3. The 'D' just means that the horse has won a race of that particular distance (5 furlongs).  If you saw 'CD' it would mean that the horse had won that distance at that particular course (5 furlongs at Ascot).  Hope that's ok for you :)

  4. It does not stand for the winning distance, but that the horse has won over the distance that that  particular race is

  5. The " d " means the horse has previously won a race over the same distance that it is racing in on the day its entered to run

  6. The same distance they are running at on that racecard.
