How far does a labtop card search for wifi connections?

It depends on the wireless router.  There have been lots of times my wireless card will pick up a signal from another router but it wont connect, because the card can't put out as strong of a signal as what a router can.

I have had and maintained connections at well over 100 feet.  There are many factors and many different modifications that you can make to your card that can make your rage very far, but most are illegal.

If its just a basic wifi card I believe it maxes at 50ft
