Suppose a Ferris Wheel is 50 feet wide. Approximately how far does a rider travel in one rotation of the wheel?

  1. Just calculate the circumference of the wheel.

    c = pi x D = 3.1416 x 50 = 157.08 ft


  2. 3.14159 times the diameter of the wheel, or in this case 157.0795 feet !

  3. Think you've got to use the equation for circumference of a circle, so (2 x Pi x radius) or (Pi x diameter). Here the diameter would be 50feet so times that by pi and you've got the distance traveled.
