Just wondering how far the FBI and Dept of Justice will go back when doing a background/criminal history check for someone who wants to become a teachers assistant or teach?

When i was a teenager (18) i got busted for shoplifting. Ended up paying a fine. That was my first and last conviction. Will that show up? And if so, will that hurt my chances of wanting to become a teacher in the future? thank you.....

  1. It may show up, but on your application it asks if you were ever convicted of a misdemeanor or a felony.  If you did not put it on there and it comes up, you will generally not be hired because you lied on your application.

  2. If your fingerprints are on file-it should pick it up-

I'm guessing it was a misdemeaner-so it may not cause a failure --but call teh department of ed to find out for sure

  3. usuall its a 10 year search.  A shoplifting conviction when you were 18 shouldnt be a issue.
