Question:

How far down do I trim my annuals?

In preparation for some extra fall blooms I am trimming down my annuals that have gotten spindly, specifically salvia & petunias. I live in North Carolina by the way, in case that makes a difference, and this is the time of year this is to be done, unless you are pulling out all the annuals in September in exchange for mums or pansies.

  1. Cut off any old bloom stems, and any of the leaves that are looking unhealthy.

  2. I recommend trimming both back by about one third.  They should recover and reward you with bursts of full, robust bloom within 3 to 4 weeks.
