Magellan attempted it. He turned out alive, returned successful but dead. Remember 'Operation successful but patient died!'

All these notions like what you wrote are archaic. Either you are inattentive in the class or your teacher is bad. There is a third alternative - you've read too much of Rowling's 'Harry Potter' that you started believing in miracles and such weird happenings so much that you lost touch with reality. It is like an intelligent ant crawling around an Orange trying to figure out such things.
