Question:

How far from shore do bass hang out?

I've been fishing at a local pond with no obvious areas of cover.A guy that lives next to the pond told me the area he fishes for bass cuz it's the deepest area of the pond.I spent about an hour with no luck at all.I tried lures of all kinds and a texas rig.The water is too dark to see anything under the water.I have no idea what the maximum depth is.It's about a 10 acre pond.

I'm wondering how far out from the shore should I be casting out to find the bass?

  1. Heres what you do...

Have a pole setup already with a bobber and a hook big enough to go through a bluegill.

Catch yourself a couple bluegill with a small hook on a rod..or the same rod..make sure they re small!

Now have a bucket and keep 2 or 3 bluegill in there.

When you see some swirls near shore...or see bass jumping. Hook a bluegill through the spot just below his spine near his back so he hangs at an angle facing the ground...Not straight down..but enough he will struggle to swim down.

Throw him out there when you see a bass doing this or when a bass is near shower or you here a little splashing and you can catch a large bass.

Also try doing this with one hooked up to a sinker at the bottom of a lake.

Crawdads work well for bottom fishing for bass as well.
