  1. Almost exactly my lifetime, I can remember the late 1940s.

As much progress as in all life to that time..........but still a long way to go.

Especially in health, employment rights and public attitudes.

For which you need to thank your mother and grandmother who stood up to be counted.

  2. very very far I would say, they are treated as equals now.

  3. Women did not have equal pay in the 1940s, so that is something that has changed.  Also there were fewer women doctors, lawyers, businesswomen etc, the numbers of women working in these fields has increased greatly.

Nevertheless, the majority of women who work today are still doing much the same kind of jobs women were fifty or sixty years ago, they are teachers and nurses and social workers and secretaries and librarians and hairdressers and shop assistants and waitresses.  The women of the 1940s would find most of the jobs done by women today quite familiar, despite all the technological advances.

Also, in the 1940s, most married women who could afford to stayed at home with their children rather than going out to work.  Nowadays most women want to work even if they can afford to stay at home.  Whether this is a good thing or not is a matter of opinion.  Personally, I think work is highly overrated.
