Question:

How far in advance do I need to make reservations for restaurants in Las Vegas?

My girlfriend and I are going to be in Vegas in mid-June, and we're going to be eating at some of the nicer places there. We pretty much have our places picked out (Michael Mina's, Emeril's, Rosemary's, etc.), but we're wondering how far in advance we need to book. So, what sort of time frame are we looking at? Also, how different will weekends be?

  1. June is actually a slower month in Vegas.  In fact, tourism has slowed a bit (but is by no means dead) since the economy is so bad.  For a midweek reservation, you could make it same day.  For a weekend I suggest 48hrs. or more depending on whether or not there are any major conventions or events in town.

  2. Melissa has this one right (always ask the locals).  I've recently spent a good chunk of time in Las Vegas myself, and I've never had to book more than a 48 hours in advance.

But let me add this one caveat:  if your short list is true to your intentions, you're not eating at the nicer places, you're eating at the nicest.  I've dined at both Michael Mina's and Emeril's, and I spent $120 at each restaurant just for myself.  Were they worth it?  Absolutely.  Five, six, or seven course meals, individual servers, wine pairings with every course.  Michael Mina's is especially divine.

If you're dining at any of these locations on the weekend, be prepared to spend at least $200 at each for two people, and be aware that there will be an enforced dress code--bring a coat and tie.

  3. . I lived in Vegas years ago, and you're right to avoid the general buffets as that food is usually mediocre. CHEAP but a bit bland.

Go to each restaurant's web site, or call them. June is usually VERY busy. Maybe 24 hrs advance is enough. Maybe 2 weeks.

And limit your gambling losses to $100 a day.

  4. Well I have not eaten at any of those, but from what I see on the Travel Channel it is best to make reservations BEFORE you go!!  If you are going in mid-June, then call now!  Yes, I would think they book up lots quicker on the weekends (like most major cities do.)  It's certainly not too early to call now!

    Have fun!
