  1. Try visiting this online forum http://www.weddingcup.com. Since it is focused on wedding, you have a better chance to find your answer there. This is a common place for couples and wedding professionals to exchange their ideas. You can search for similar question, post your questions there or chats with others who seek the same interests.

  2. My shower was given to me this weekend (Saturday) and my wedding is 8/30. Usually showers are held 1-6 weeks ahead of the wedding. Mine was about 5 weeks before the wedding but have known them to be held even sooner. Whatever is more comfortable for you to do. I don't know your exact wedding date but like I said usually 1-6 weeks is an acceptable time frame to have it.

A shower and a wedding gift are two separate gifts. Yes if you attend the shower you give a shower gift for the bride, if you attend the wedding you also give a wedding gift. Of course gifts are always optional (well at least for the wedding). Cash gifts are most common for weddings. So yes, two different occasions so you buy two separate gifts. I know it gets expensive!

  3. That's a bit too far in advance, at least by a month.  Should be closer to the wedding date, maybe a month later, like October 20th or something. Your maid of honor should be the one hosting your bridal shower.

And yes, if you attend a bridal shower, you give the bride-to-be a gift, it is a shower after all, you shower her with gifts, just for her.  If you also attend the wedding, yes, you give another gift for the wedding, usually something for the couple.  Your MIL is cheap and not following proper wedding etiquette.
