How far inland do I have to be before I DON'T live on the coast?

I live 7 miles from the sea so consider myself as living 'on the coast'. Am I right in saying this? Most weather maps say 'on the coast' or coastal regions, but would love to know how far inland this expression takes you!

  1. Do your feet get wet when the tide comes in?

Seriously I would have said about ten miles.

  2. I'd say that if you live in a village or town that has a coast then you're living in a coastal region.

I live on the inland edge of a village with a beach and I consider myself on the limit of what is coastal at around 2 miles off the water.

I would say that Aston Clinton is definitely NOT coastal. It's the furthest point inland in the UK.

  3. I would say that living on the coast means that you can either see the sea or be able to walk to it in about 15mins

  4. wherever you go in britain it is said that you are no more than 70 miles from the sea.

  5. I'd say about 20 miles.
