How far is Heathrow from London, and is it hard to commute between them?

I am looking to visit London for 5 days and it seems all of the cheaper hotels are near the airport. Is it really important for me to stay in Central London, or can I reasonably commute back and forth without wasting too much of my short visit?

Thanks so much!

  1. as previous replies say, it is an hour on public transport back and forth so best to find a hotel nearer the centre. if you are on a budget try a travelodge or premier travel inn in the centre. you won't get room service but you'll get the basics, ens-suite, tv and clean and comfortable room. you won't be in the room much anyway so no need for luxuries i'd guess. try www.premierinn.co.uk and www.travelodge.co.uk

  2. Heathrow is connected to London by the tube

if you go on "tfl.gov.uk" it'll be able to plan your journey form London to Heathrow

Heathrow is on the Piccadilly Line

  3. Heathrow is a long distance from the airport and as somebody said before it would take an hour each way from Central London to the airport, (i do not know if this is true, but you can see on the tube maps that Heathrow is far away from Central London). All the Money you would be spending on the tube each and every day you could just put that towards a hotel in Central London.

  4. You can commute but it's likely to take at least an hour each way on the tube. Faster but more expensive on the heathrow shuttle train but you would have to go back to the airport to get on that train.

A better option is to look for a two or three star hotel in the central part of London but not right in the main central districts. You should get a good deal and will find you enjoy your stay much more.
