How far is Iguassu Falls from Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro?

I want to buy a vacation package for Rio and Buenos Aires, and would like to see Iguassu, as well, but it is too expensive for all three. I was wondering if it is possible to take a day trip there, either by rental car or tour bus, from either city and return to the city hotel at night. Anyone know?

  1. I think everyone here pretty much answered your question....

No way you can do a day trip....

I would go from Rio to Iguacu to Buenos Aires....

Depending how much time you have.....Flying would be your best option. The trips are long and the roads are not the same as in the states...narrow and sometimes just one laned....(I went there from Asuncion, Paraguay)

I would spend time at Iguacu to not only check out the amazing waterfalls....but the largest Dam in the world  Itapu Dam...is also there.

Don't rush it....South America is continent you take your time to take in the beauty.

  2. It is quite far to go by road, I recommend you fly. From Iguazu to Rio it is about an hour and a half and from Buenos Aires it's about the same. It will be very hard for you to go it either way (from Rio or from BA) in a day, yu can probably fly to Iguazu (from Buenos Aires) stay a night, then fly to Rio. In that way you go and see three things intead of 2.

  3. It is a 24 hour bus ride from Buenos Aires to Iguazu.  I ended up skipping the falls because they were so far from everywhere else I was going.  If you have the funds I would suggest flying as it would be much quicker!  Have a blast!

  4. it is about 900 miles to rio de janiero from iguassu falls and about 800 miles from iguassu falls to buenos aires
