  1. My friend, it depends on what part of Queens you're going to be living in. Queens is a very large borough with plenty of options. The trip to Times Square from Queens by subway could take anywhere between 15 minutes (if you're in Astoria) to 45 minutes.

    Good luck

  2. Many (probably most) Queens neighborhoods are within 30 minutes from Times Square. Not to worry...once you're here for a little while and know the grid system of Manhattan, the city gets a lot less confusing.

The trains (subways) are definitely the way to go!  It's the way most New Yorkers get around and how ~ 99% of commuters get into Manhattan for work.  Here's link to the subway map.

Look about halfway down the map for the # 7 line (purple). It's a line running west to northeast.  The western end is Times Sq.  Once the train crosses the east river (right after the UNITED NATIONS sign on the map) you're technically in Queens.  Not sure where you'll be living, but the end of the N, W line, Astoria, for example is about 15-20 mins from Times Sq. The end of G, R, V line, Forest Hills and the #7 line, Flushing, is around 20-25 minutes.

Here's another map showing the different neighborhoods of Queens. You can line up with the subway map to find where you'll be living to get a better idea how long it might take to Times Sq.

    Good luck!

  3. Just like Native New Yorker said. If you are in Astoria or Long Island City it takes 15 min. If you live in the far eastern part of Queens it takes much longer. In some parts of Queens you need to take a bus just to get to a subway.

  4. The #7 train as well as the E and F and V all go from queens to the Times Square area.  Cabs are out of the question as they are prohibitively expensive and often no faster than the train anyway.
