  1. I run an Italy touring company.  The distance is 200 miles and a five hour drive.  About 4 hours by train using the coastal route.  Not particularly easy.  I would suggest visiting Pisa from Florence, not Rome.

  2. Ciao !! From Rome to Florence its abt 2 hrs, then from Florence to Pisa 45 minutes, more or less.

  3. It IS possible to visit the leaning tower in Pisa from Rome. Just take a regional or IC train that goes along the coast line and don't go via Florence. It's cheaper and less of a hassle. There is one that leaves Rome at 7:35 in the morning and gets there before 11 am.

From the Pisa train station, right out front, take the bus that runs to the Tower ... or better yet... walk straight out the station and always straight - Corso Italia, Piazza Garibaldi, Borgo Stretto, left into Piazza Cavalieri - and you will see the nicest part of Pisa during your 20 minute walk to the Tower. The take the bus back, or spend more time in this great town!
