How many kilometers? How many hours by car? Also what are all the towns you pass before you get to Santiago? My mother told me it's only Villa Altagracia, Piedra Blanca, Bonao, La Vega. Are there more towns? I'm asking because now that Santo Domingo has a metro and the 2nd line will go from East-West from San Luis to Los Alcarrizos I was thinking it would be a great idea to build a commuter rail from Los Alcarrizos to Santiago with stops in all the different towns along the way. I was born in DR and I grew up in NY, but I'm always interested in what goes on in DR and I read DR news online. I'm also very interested in the development of the country. :-)

  1. Hi, Yes Master,

The correct distance between the two cities is 155km. Taking in mind the traffic problems and also the bad condition of the road in some places, I would be less optimistic than my friend "SMILE" and speak about 1h45 to 2 hours. Yes Santo Domingo has the METRO now and this is a great and good thing for the people of the capital. It is great to read that your are trying to update your info about this wonderful country.

  2. about 2 hrs

  3. Well the distance is 155 Km  and it usually takes from 1h 30 mins to 2 hrs depending on traffic, however is not that you get that much traffic unless is a holiday. I know the time that it takes because I have family in La Vega and your mom told you right, those are the towns you pass by while driving there. As for the Metro, the connection Santo Domingo – Santiago is to be done in a few years I read on the newspaper the other day.

  4. It is 155 km about 1 and 30 minutes drive. (depends on the city traffic)

  5. It looks like just over 150 Km. How long it would take to drive would be hard for me to say having never driven there. It looks like the cities would slow you down a lot because you have to go through them. Down in the Caribbean and Gulf I have only ever driven in Puerto Rico, USVI and Aruba. My guess is it is similar to Puerto Rico and according to Google Earth it looks like a fairly straight shot.

Alcarrizos, Basima, Bonao (by-passed), Algorrobo, La Vega (by-passed)
