How far is Zaandam from Amsterdam ?

My hotel is the Golden Tulip, but i'm not sure whether to take train/bus/taxi to get from there to Amsterdam square

19 Kilometers from Zaandam trainstation to Amsterdam Central station, train takes 12-13 minutes.

It's very easy by train and I actually even suggest that form of transportation as you may encounter traffic jams between Zaandam and amsterdam.

I believe from when I was there last you can take a train every 15 minutes that will take you to Amsterdam Centraal ( central station) , don't get off at Amsterdam Sloterdijk, which is one stop before the central one. It takes about 15 minutes. Once at the central station walk out to the front of the station ( not the water side) and take a tram like nr. 25 that will take you to the Dam Square and from ther you'll see the hotel.
