  1. The US Air Force is stationed at RAF Mildenhall, there are no US Air Force bases in UK.

  2. it wouldn't be that easy, and the amount of time it would take you to get there would mean you'd probably need longer than a weekend ... if you had your own transport you could drive, but it would be a tiring journey ... it would be more viable if there were a few of you going and you could share the driving and the cost (I know you think your petrol, or gas as you call it, is expensive in the US but right now petrol in UK is running near to £1.20 a litre

roughly speaking, if you're travelling alone, it would be cheaper by public transport ... I would think the nearest rail station to Mildenhall would be Bury St Edmunds or Ely (You'd need to check with Mildenhall what transport there is to local towns) ... the website I usually use to check train times is

    www.thetrainline.com

cheaper would be National Express coaches at

www.nationalexpress.com but you would probably need to go via London which would make it an extremely long journey

a more viable alternative might be to take the National Express coach from Mildenhall to Stansted airport (which takes about an hour) and fly with Easyjet to Glasgow (there seems to be a couple of flights a day taking about one hour 20 minutes) ... if you book in advance you can often get good bargains with airlines like Easyjet

  3. Mildenhall to Glasgow by road is approx' 375 miles, and on a good day with the wind behind you and no hold ups (pigs might fly) it would take the better part of 5.5hrs to drive.  It would take a heck of a lot longer on a coach but would be more comfortable by train...but that would be incredibly expensive (it's not cheap to live in the UK...believe me!) Though if you booked far enough in advance you could get a good deal on the price.

If you use this site you can gain some info' on duration and cost of using the train.  You would probably be going from Cambridge or Ipswich to Glasgow Central...

You could do the same with this site too...
